Technical Aspects of Almena Films

To make your ideas into a film, whether it's documenting a wedding or a ceremony, or making a music video, or creating a commercial for your business, we always shoot in HDV, or High-Def Video, which is nearly three times better and sharper image quality than nearly anyone else is currently shooting in the Lafayette area.

For this, we choose the Sony Z1U HDV Camera, which produces the most beautiful footage we have ever had the opportunity to capture. I've included a very short clip of uncompressed footage from this camera, which must be viewed with Quicktime 7 and a rather fast computer. Hold the Option Key on he keyboard, and click here to download the 2 second sample clip of the Z1U footage (est file size is 28 mb). If you're using Windows, save this file to disk, and then view. If you attempt to view it in the browser, it may not work.

After the footage has been gathered, we take it to the most powerful personal computer on the planet, the Apple G5 2.7 GHz dual processor where we capture, perform color correction* and edit transitions. We work with you, if desired, to create the look and feel you envision. For information on this computer, visit Apple's site and read how this computer is nearly two times faster than the Dell 3.6 GHz Pentium 4.

* Color Correction is defined as both calibrating the levels (both black and white), or "setting the contrast" and comparing each scene to ensure the colors match from scene to scene.
